Vets Serving Vets
Happy Veterans Day to all! Many of the VSD staff had honorably served in the U.S. military before ending up further serving our fellow veterans in the Greater Harris County area.
Today we’d like to share some memories and old images of the VSD staff who proudly work to help veterans re-integrate into the civilian society after serving our nation.
Col. Dave Lewis, USAF Retired
Director, Harris County VSD
Dave Lewis, served 29 years on active duty, and is a command pilot with over 3,100 flying hours in fighter and trainer aircraft. He has served in combat both on the ground and in the air in the European, Pacific, and Southwest Asian theaters, and worked with the US Army, the US Naval War College as a faculty member, and commander of a foreign fighter squadron.
Sgt. Jason Williams, U.S. Army
Petty Officer Jason Williams, U.S. Navy
Deputy Director, Harris County VSD
Jason served in both the U.S. Navy and Army Intelligence and deployed in combat for Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal.
Gunnery Sgt. LaShonda Johnson, U.S.M.C.
Case Manager Supervisor, Harris County VSD
LaShonda proudly served for 13 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a legal administrator, operations supervisor, legal chief, and recruiting. She fondly recounts her time serving alongside Marines and is one of our most passionate military advocates in Harris County.
Petty Officer Kevin Woods, U.S. Navy
Veterans Case Manager, Harris County VSD
Kevin honorably served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft fire fighter upon the USS John C. Stennis’ flight deck. He completed two deployments one in 2009 and the other 2011-2012 in support of the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Capt. Henry Chan, U.S. Army
Public Affairs Officer, Harris County VSD
Henry served in the Europe, Afghanistan and the Continental U.S. as an Ordnance Officer and Public Affairs Officer. Outside of his specialization in weapons, explosives and vehicles, he has overseen communications programs, and worked with press in support of multiple military operations overseas.
Specialist Joshua Jones, U.S. Army
Digital Media Specialist, Harris County VSD
Josh served as an infantryman on the West Coast, Germany and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom under the Joint Special Operations Command.
