Here are a list of Veterans Day deals and discounts for veterans, servicemembers, their families and caregivers

HOUSTON (Sept. 10, 2024) The Harris County Veteran Services Department (HC VSD) proudly supports efforts by the office of Houston City Council District C (Council Member Abbie Kamin) in providing secure firearm storage options. 

Texas property taxes are high, but VA-rated disabled vets (DVs) may receive a discount on the taxes property taxes they may. Some DVs can even get their property taxes completely waived.

Texas DV (Disabled Veteran) License Plates, or “tags” are a super power.

Okay… Maybe not like a comic superhero power, but legally you get to do far more things than the regular driver, which is pretty useful since you drive everywhere in Houston.

Beginning September 15, 2023, Houston Airports will offer certain military veterans and military award recipients complimentary parking each time they visit George Bush Intercontinental Airport or William P. Hobby Airport. 

Qualifying veterans can choose between:

Up to 60 consecutive days in an ecopark lot or

Up to 5 consecutive days in a parking garage 

The Harris County Veterans Services Deparment (the VSD) received a $750,000 grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support local Veterans through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP)

Struggling vets get second chance with Harris County Misdemeanor Veterans Treatment Court

With the current change in state policy, effective Sept. 1, 2021, motorists with a DV plate will require an ADA placard in their vehicle to park in the ADA parking space, and in Dec. 1, 2021, the DMV will not automatically issue them without a doctor’s signature on the application.

The Harris County Veterans Services Department has limited emergency funding to provide short-term financial assistance for Veterans and their families in need.

This specific program will prioritize the most vulnerable and underserved in our communities; funding is limited, so please apply now.
